Mert Gur was elected to receive Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) National Outstanding Researchers Programme fellowship in 2022. The research project titled “Molecular-scale modeling of dynein microtubule binding and power stroke” will receive ~$133,951.4 research funding, and also additional overhead funding. The abnormalities and defects in dynein function has been associated with numerous neurodegenerative diseases and disorders including ALS, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson’s disease. Furthermore, due to its unique structure and advanced machinery makes it an interesting bio-nanomachine for nanotechnological applications. The project aims to elucidate the operating mechanism of dynein at all-atom resolution by performing molecular dynamics simulations under physiological conditions.
